Samsung L700 Review
The Samsung L700 is a mid range phone but offers solid features for its price. It has a stylish metallic look, remniscent of many other Samsung phones. Samsung has never quite been able to stand up to Nokia or Sony Ericsson or even Motorola in the mid range segment. But it seems to be trying hard with many launches in this segment in the past few months. In this review we check out if it's latest salvo in the mid range smart phone war actually deserves to win over the segment. It doesn't have perfect specs but does have lots of useful features which you would expect in this range. It tops this with absolutely sturdy build quality and a great metallic feel. It competes head on with the Nokia 3120 classic and the Sony Ericsson S500 and W580i.

Samsung L700 Specifications:

  • Dimensions : 109 x 46 x 12.8 mm
  • Weight : 107 gms
  • Display : 2.1? TFT, 256K Colors, 176 x 220 pixels
  • Camera : 2 MP Cam, 1600 x 1200 pixels, Flash, Video recordingvideocall camera
  • Memory : 40 MB Internal memory
  • Connectivity : GPRS Class 10, EDGE Class 10, 3G, USB 2.0
  • Bluetooth : Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP
Other Features: Java MIDP 2.0, MP3/AAC/eAAC+/WMA player, MPEG4/3GP player, FM radio with RDS, Office Document viewer, Organizer, xHTML Web Browser

Design and Display:

The Samsung L700 has a decent looking design mostly comprised of metal. The design isn't very appealing and looks rather bland but the metallic looks are very promising. It gives an overall sturdy feel to the mobile and that reflects in its build quality. It has dimensions of 109 x 46 x 12.8 mm which are quite compact, though not exactly slim. It weighs just 107 gms which is quite good considering it is mostly made of metal. It is a far cry from the usual stylish and slim phones and is rather robust and utilitarian phones. The phone looks like it can be alternately used as projectile weapon in case the cell phone part doesn't quite suit you. The keypad and the whole phone has a very comfortable and ergonomic feel to it. If you can compromise on style, this phone won't disappoint you at all in terms of design, the build quality is superb. The Samsung L700 sports a 2.1? LCD display with a resolution of just 176 x 220 pixels. The low resolution is a huge letdown and lowers the display quality. Most other phones in this range with screen sizes smaller than the Samsung L700 also sport 16M color displays. The display has superb brightness and contrast levels but the low resolution just doesn't feel right. On the front face of the phone, there is the 2.1? display with the secondary cam and ear piece, and the superb metallic keypad below it. The keys are quite comfortable and spaced out and offer good feedback. The D Pad is quite good to use and responsive. On the right is the common connectivity port which can be used to connect the charger, USB cable and headset. It also sports a volume rocker on the right side. The left side sports a micro SD slot and the camera shutter key. The top and bottom of the phone are bare with almost no ports or buttons. The back of the phone houses the 2.0 MP camera and the LED flash.

Interface and Multimedia Capabilities:

The user interface is the typical Samsung interface with a few improvements - which means downright simple and easy to use, in fact it is so simple that it feels stupid at some point. The interface is very fast and responsive with minimal animations thrown in. It is stripped of most interface enhancements including the cool transition effects as well as themes. Even the basic interfaec is not as refined as Sony Ericsson's and is way behind Nokia's. It is pretty zippy and fast though. It has a standard file manager using which you can access the different media types easily. The Gallery application is integrated into the file manager. The Samsung L700 is not a branded as a music phone but does farely well in the music department as well. The music quality is good and the speaker volume is loud too. The music player interface is very intuitive and offers all the features that any good interface would. You can fully control your music playback using the D Pad. The music player supports playlist creation, podcasts and album art as well. You can sort your music according to artist, album, genre, composer and recently played. The The video playback in the Samsung L700 is decent, the video quality is good and you can easily fast forward or rewind the videos. You can also view them fullscreen. The L700 comes with a built in FM Radio with RDS support. The FM reception is good and thanks to the RDS support, you can view track and channel information on your handset.

Camera and Other Features:

The Samsung L700 comes with a 2 MP camera with a maximum image resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels. It doesn't have autofocus but does come with a LED flash for night shots. The camera interface is standard and easy to use and offers a wide range of options to customize from - picture size, mode, advanced color effects, white balance etc. The image quality is nice and sharp with good and accurate color reproduction. There is very less noise in any given pic under any conditions. The L700 also supports video recording in QCIF resolutions at 15 FPS in the very popular 3GP format. The video recording quality is not much to speak of. The Samsung L700 also has office document viewing support. It also ahs a customized Netfront 3.4 browser built in which is rather underpowered. It also has all the other standard additional features like Calendar, To Do list, voice recorder etc. It is powered by a 960 mAh battery which easily lasts for about 2 - 3 days with moderate usage. It offers nice call reception quality and has good speaker volume levels. It can outshine quite a few biggies in terms of sound volume if not in terms of audio quality.

Pros:

  • Sturdy Build Quality with Metallic body
  • Inexpensive

Cons:

  • Low Display Resolution
  • Poor Video Recording quality

Conclusion:

The Samsung L700 is a good buy considering it's features. It does miss out on many aspects but is definitely worth it's asking price if you want a nice, sturdy phone with decent features built in. It performs most of the smart phone functions decently, if not superbly.

My Rating: 3.25 / 5.

Samsung M3200 Beat s review
Samsung introduced the Samsung i450 Beat some time back that was primarily a music phone and loads of other features. Samsung M3200 Beat s is a toned down version of that cellphone, aimed towards the budget category consumers. It features Samsung-style shake control, full blown music player, 3.5mm jack, music recognition application, mood based track-sorting etc.

Samsung M3200 Beat s specifications :

  • Dimensions : 96.5 x 46.9 x 16.9 mm
  • Weight : 109 g
  • Display : 2? TFT with 240 x 320 resolution
  • Connectivity : GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSCSD
  • Bluetooth : Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP
  • Camera : 2.0 Megapixel
  • Ports : USB v2.0, 3.5mm
  • Accelerometer, Motion control,Music recognition, FM recording
  • Radio : FM Radio with RDS
  • Card slot : microSD upto 8GB
  • Approx. price : $400
Samsung hasn't really concentrated on music cell phones and the Beat series is here to change that. The Samsung i450 Beat gave music a new dimension and M3200 Beat s is here to make a mark in the budget category music phones.

Design and Display

The M3200 is a slider phone with a 2.0? display. Smaller display is a major drawback which might lose Samsung quite a number of customers. The small display leaves a lot of space on the front panel. Only the earpiece finds room above the display and three dedicated music keys take up the space just below the display. There are two keys on the front panel apart from a D-pad. Volume rocker is on the left side and a music player key. The two speakers have been placed at the top and on the right side. The universal port and the camera key cover up rest of the space on the right side. Both the top and bottom are free from any ports or keys. The display has good clarity but for a 2.0? screen it does not make much of a difference. The sunlight visibility is good but not great like Nokia displays.

Keypad and User Interface

Sliding the phone up reveals the alphanumeric keypad. It also has the Call and End keys as well as Clear button. All the keys are separated from each other and have substantial amount of space between them. The keys offer good feedback and it is a SMS junkie's phone. The well spaced layout of the keys eliminates typos. The user interface of the M3200 is a non-smartphone user interface by Samsung. The user interface is nowhere near to that offered by Nokia S40 phones. The main menu displays the icon in a grid format. The deeper sub-menus are also fast and responsive but have limited eye candy. Home screen does not offer much except for the standard battery and signal strength. Dialing animations can be changed too. The installed themes are quite good and go well with the overall design and pattern of the phone. It also offers you the option to create your own themes in Easy and Expert modes.

Music Player and Camera

Music is where the phone excels at! It has a lot of music oriented features already mentioned in the beginning of the review. The music player has three dedicated keys right below the display which also launch the music player from anywhere. The M3200 has stereo speakers, 3.5mm jack, bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP, shake control etc which glorify this music device. The music player is powered by a Band & Olufsen ICE power chip and also takes advantage of Samsung's DNSe technology. These lead to better sound quality at reduced power consumption compared to other handsets. But still the audio quality of the handset is not the best. The music player interface also has two separate themes. The interface otherwise is simple and easy to use. Motion Play feature uses the built-in accelerometer to change tracks, pause/play songs, mute player etc by the flick of the hand. Motion Play can also be used during an incoming call. Overall a nice feature which is great to show off. Mood-based track sorting has been implement in quite a few Sony Ericsson phones. It works in collaboration with the desktop application to sort the tracks according to various moods. Auto-EQ is another great feature which selects a pre-defined equalisers based on the genre of the track. Shazam which recently acquired fame due to its iPhone music recognition app, has provided the same application for this phone too. It works great in finding songs after listening to a part of the track. The camera is a big disappointment as the 2.0 MP camera has not been supplemented by either autofocus or the LED flash. This makes the camera a below average performer. The interface is very simple but has many settings to tweak. Portrait mode is the only way of using the camera. The image quality is below average and lacks detail. The colors appear washed out in the images. The video quality is sup-par with QCIF resolution at only 15fps. Overall the camera department of the phone is below average.

Web browser and Organiser

The browser bundled with the M3200 is NetFront v3.4 which has basic functionality. It is good enough for casual browsing as it lacks advanced features found in most of next generation browsers. Mini-map and in-page search are the two features it does support. Most of the pages are rendered fine and overall performance of the browser is good. The organiser has a good calendar which can manage yours tasks well. In the alarm clock, upto five alarms can be set up. Other organiser applications include voice memo recorder, a calculator, unit converter, countdown timer and stopwatch. A good organiser bundle for a phone in this budget. Pros :
  • Good keypad
  • Awesome music player
  • Good organiser
Cons :
  • Small display
  • Poor camera
  • Average browser
Final Thoughts The Samsung M3200 Beat s is a music oriented phone in the budget category. It has excellent music features which give you a worthwhile music experience. But that is the only great thing about the phone. In other departments the phone is pretty much average. The camera neither has autofocus nor flash. The display measures just 2.0? and browser is average. If music is your only concern then you can consider buying this. My Rating : 2.75/5

Nokia 3600 Slide Review
The Nokia 3600 Slide is a stylish new offering by Nokia. It features a sleek slider design which is aerodynamically styled with smooth and rounded edges. It is powered by the tried and tested S40 user interface which has been Nokia's favorite for mid range phones. THe 3600 Slide has a varied mix of features and doesn't lack in any department. It has most of the features anyone would want in a phone and excels in the multimedia department. It is almost surely going to be a bestseller and is intended to replace the better S40 based phones. It does lack out on some features like 3G and Wi-Fi, GPS etc but the features seem to be fairly justified in this price range. In this review, we check out the 3600 Slide and adjudge whether it is really worth its price or not.

Nokia 3600 Slide Specifications:

  • Dimensions : 97.8 x 47.2 x 14.5 mm
  • Weight : 97.3 gms
  • Display : 2.0? TFT, 16M Colors, QVGA 240 x 320 px.
  • Camera : 3.15 MP Cam (2048 x 1536 pixels) with LED flash, autofocus, Video VGA at 15 FPS
  • Memory : 30 MB Internal memory (upto 8 GB external memory Micro SD)
  • Connectivity : GPRS Class 32, HSCSD, EDGE Class 32, USB 2.0.
  • Bluetooth : Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP
  • OS : S40 User Interface
  • Battery: Li-Ion 860 mAh (BL-4S)
Other Key Features: 5 Way Navigation key, Stereo FM Radio with RDS, Java MIDP 2.0, TV out.

Design and Display:

The Nokia 3600 Slide is a sleek phone which sports a very stylish slider design. At dimensions of just 97.8 x 47.2 x 14.5 mm it is very compact. It weighs only about 97 gms which makes it easy to carry as well. On top of the slider, you get the 2? TFT display and the earpiece. It also has a 5 way Navi key, two select keys and the standard Call and End keys. Below the slider you get the alphanumeric keypad. All of the keys have a very good feel about them. The keypad backlighting is nice and subtle. No complaints with the keypad. On the top of the phone, you find the charger socket, the Power key and the 2.5 mm audio jack. The left side sports the covered micro USB slot while the right side sports the volume rocker and camera key. All the buttons and ports blend in superbly with the design and impart a great balanced feel to the phone. The back of the phone sports the 3.15 MP camera and the dual LED flash. The phone is mostly made of plastic. The build quality is superb and feels sturdy as with most Nokia phones. It can easily withstand light bumps and falls. The slider action is smooth and fluid, the whole body has a refined feel. It has one of the best combination durability in this range. The 3600 Slide sports a nice little 2? 16 M color display with a resolution of 240 x 320 px. It offers superb brightness and contrast. Sunlight legibility is awesome, way better than most phones in this range. A bigger display would have been most welcome as this is primarily a multimedia phone.

User Interface and Multimedia:

The Nokia 3600 Slide sports the latest iteration of the S40 user interface - Version 5 Feature Pack 1. It is fast, slick and has improved greatly over the older versions with better animations and performance boosts. The music player in the 3600 Slide is superb and natively supports many audio formats - AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, MP3, MP4, WMA, AMR, Mobile XMF, SP-MIDI, MIDI. It looks simple but is packed with lots of functionality. It has all the typical features you would expect in a music minded phone - Album art, 5 EQ presets (normal, pop, rock, jazz and classical) , Custom EQ, stereo widening etc. The audio quality is above average but relatively the among the best in its range. It has a good frequency response but average noise level and dynamic range. It is good enough for most casual users. The video player is the new standard S40 V5 player. It natively supports the 3GP and MP4 formats. It also has the standard playback features - fullscreen viewing, fast forward, rewind etc. The video playback is nice and smooth with no lags. The interface is easy to use. No points lost on this one. The 3600 Slide also has FM radio with RDS which allows you to view station and track information. The reception is decent. It also supports the Bluetooth A2DP profile which allows transmitting stereo music over bluetooth to your wireless headphones.

Camera and Connectivity:

The 3600 Slide sports a 3.15 MP camera with autofocus for stability and a dual LED flash for night shots. It captures images at a max resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. The image quality is decent but nothing much to speak of. The noise levels are average, the colors vibrant but a bit unnatural and slight lack of detail. At this price point, it is a good feature though. It also records VGA video at 15 FPS which is a bit of a feat. The video quality is again average. All in all, a decent camera but certainly not the 3.2 MP camera around. It has the standard S40 gallery, pretty simple and plain. It offers all the standard features like image zooming, fullscreen viewing, slide show and different viewing and listing modes. It is a bit slow especially when your phone is loaded with images and other content. That will hopefully be corrected in a future firmware update. It features the standard connectivity features like GPRS, HSCSD and EDGE. It also offers Bluetooth v2.0 and USB v2.0 for faster connections. It doesn't have 3G or Wi-Fi but that is understood as the phone aims at a different category.

Network, Battery and Accessories:

The 3600 Slide offers great signal reception and superb call quality, better than most other Nokia devices which is quite an achievement. There is also some background noise cancellation which works cool. The loudspeaker volume and vibration strength is also improved. The Nokia 3600 Slide comes bundled with a standard charger, USB data cable and a set of stereo headphones. You also get a user manual and a quick start guide in the box. It also ships with a 512 MB micro SD card. It is powered by a Li-Ion 860 mAh battery - BL-4S. It has a rated talktime of about 6 hours and can power the phone for about a day and half with moderate usage.

Pros:

  • Relatively Inexpensive
  • Nice design and good build quality
  • Great features

Cons:

  • No 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS
  • Average Camera

Conclusion:

The 3600 Slide is good phone and packs in many standard features. It doesn't excel in any single department is a great offering in general. It is a balanced phone at a good (nah, great) price and is ideal for anyone looking for a phone with a range of features at a decent price.

Our Rating: 3.5 / 5.

Nokia 5320 Xpress Music
The Nokia 5320 is the newest Xpress Music branded music phone from Nokia. It is way ahead of its older Xpress Music siblings in terms of features and even pure music. It is powered by the new Symbian S60 OS 9.3 with FP2. It is small, sleek and very light. It has excellent sound quality and above all, it is not very expensive. In fact, it is one of the cheapest S60 smartphones. It is fully packed with most standard connectivity options as well, which makes us wonder whether it should be marketed as a music phone or a smart phone. It is one of the few phones that possess almost everything a phone should and at a very reasonable price. It does lack out at some points like the absence of Wi-Fi and GPS. We attempt to review this device and try to showcase its weak and strong points. Finally, we check out whether this phone emerges out a winner or turns out to be just another damp squib.

Nokia 5320 Specifications:

  • Dimensions : 108 x 46 x 15 mm
  • Weight : 90 g
  • Display : 2.0? TFT, 16M Colors, QVGA 240 x 320 px.
  • Camera : 2 MP Cam with LED Flash, secondary videocall cam
  • Chipset : ARM 11 369 MHZ Processor
  • Memory : 140 MB Internal memory
  • Connectivity : GPRS Class 32, HSCSD, EDGE Class 32, 3G HSDPA, USB 2.0
  • Bluetooth : Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP
  • OS : Symbian OS v9.3 rel 3.2 with FP2
Other Key Features : 8 way Navi key, FM Radio with RDS, Nokia Say and Play, Java MIDP 2.1, 3.5 mm audio jack.

Design and Display:

The Nokia 5320 Xpress Music is a very compact phone and has dimensions of 108 x 46 x 15 mm which are very small compared to other smartphones with similar features. It weighs just 90 gms which is light compared to smartphone standards. It has a normal candy bar form factor and features a cute new design with rounded edges. It is fully made of plastic and has quite a good build quality. It is sturdy enough, conforming to Nokia's famous durability standards meaning that it can easily withstand some light drops. The design was meant to appeal to the younger generation and it seems to do quite a good job at that. The alphanumeric keypad is standard and ergonomic with large keys that are easy to press. It has good backlighting making it easy to operate in the dark. The D Pad is comfortable and gels in with the keypad. Coming to the design details, the front face of the 5320 consists of the 2.0? screen and the keypad. On the top of the front face are the earpiece, the videocall camera and a "My Own" key which can be used to set personalized shortcuts to any application or function. The right side sports the camera key and the volume rocker while the left face houses three dedicated music control keys. On the top is just the Power key in the middle. The bottom sports the Micro USB slot, the 3.5 mm headphone jack and the charger slot. The back of the phone houses the 2 MP camera with dual LED flash. The display is a 2.0? TFT supporting 16 M colors and resolutions of the standard 240 x 320 px. The screen size is a bit of a letdown as it isnt very easy to read it at such resolutions. The display quality is good with decent brightness and contrast levels and vibrant colors. It has good sunlight legibility as well.

OS and Interface features :

The Nokia 5320 Xpress Music is powered by Symbian OS v9.3 rel 3.2 with Feature Pack 2. It is the latest edition of the very popular Symbian OS. It is one of the few phones to sport the new features including the N78 and the E71. Feature Pack 2 adds in a host of new functionality and visual and performance improvements. As the 5320 has a powerful 369 MHZ ARM 11 processor and a good amount of RAM - about 80 MB at bootup, the OS feels very fast and responsive. There are no lags or delays when multitasking about apps. The 5320 never slows down even with quite a few apps active. FP2 comes with a lot of cool new animations added to the User Interface. The 5320 supports the vast library of Symbian Apps - Office Applications, Email clients, Chat clients, Imaging Apps, Audio and Video players, File Explorers and much more. It has the standard Symbian Contacts and Messaging apps with slight improvements. It does have a few quirks but those can easily be fixed with firmware updates. Web browsing is a pleasure, as on all other Nokia OS 9 phones. The built in OSS browser based on Webkit is excellent and renders even heavy and detailed web pages exactly as they would on a PC. You seldom feel any lag, thanks to the huge amount of RAM in the 5320. The only thing you can complain about is the small screen. It is rumored that the 5320 will support Ngage 2.0 games with a future firmware update as soon as all bugs related to the Ngage 2.0 app on FP2 are ironed out.

Multimedia playback :

The Nokia 5320 Xpress Music doesn't quite live up to expectations of being the latest Xpress Music phone. The sound quality is definitely better than most phones but nothing spectacular. The loudspeaker quality is great and is very loud too. It supports many audio formats like MP3, AAC, eAAC+, WMA natively. The new Music Player is simple and easy to use. It has 5 default equalizer preset settings you can choose from. You can also create more if you wish to. The 5320 XM also supports A2DP which enables you to hear streaming music wirelessly on your stereo Bluetooth headset. The three dedicated music keys on the side are a great addition allowing you to control your music with a click. You can also plug in your own headphones directly to the 3.5 mm jack without the need of any adapters. The video playback is great on the superb 16 M color screen. You can view videos in fullscreen mode in the default Real player. You can also install many other video players like Smartmovie player, DivX player or Core Player. However, a bigger screen would definitely have added to the video watching experience. the 2? screen is not very suitable for watching videos. Other than that, there are absolutely no negatives when it comes to video playback. There are no delays in opening and viewing media files, all thanks to FP 2.

Camera and FM :

The Nokia 5320 XM has a sub standard 2.0 MP (1600 x 1200 px) camera with a dual LED Flash. The camera interface is good but it doesn't feature many customizable options. It doesn't have autofocus. It comes as a shocker as almost all new phones these days sport atleast a 3.2 MP camera. It takes average pics that have slightly washed out colors. It shoots video at 15 FPS at QVGA (320 x 240) resolution. The video quality isn't much to speak of either. Overall, if you want a decent camera phone, this isn't where you should be looking at. It also features a FM Radio with RDS and comes a nice, easy to use interface which can auto scan all the available stations and store them. It comes with RDS support and the Visual Radio app.

Connectivity :

The 5320 carries a host of connectivity options like GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Bluetooth, USB 2.0 which is a bit surprising considering that is is essentially a Xpress Music phone. However it does miss out on Wi-Fi which shouldn't be much of a problem as it wasn't intended to be an office phone anyways. It doesn't have IR support also but that standard is almost dead now. It also doesnt support GPS which means that you will have to use an external GPS receiver. But that is understandable considering the other features it packs, and its price.

Accessories :

Along with the Nokia 5320 XM, you get a 1 GB MicroSD card, the Xpress Music handsfree, a charger and a Micro USB data cable. You also get the regular manuals and a PC Suite CD. It has a weak 890 mAh BL-5B battery powering it which provides about 3.5 hrs of talktime and lasts for more than a day with standard usage.

Pros :

  • Sturdy build quality
  • Relatively Inexpensive
  • Fast processor and High RAM
  • Good audio quality

Cons :

  • Small screen
  • Substandard 2.0 MP cam with no AF
  • No Wi-Fi
  • No GPS
  • Poor battery life

Final Words :

The Nokia 5320 Xpress Music is a great phone and offers the best of both worlds. It is a potent mix of features and multimedia capabilities at a relatively low price. However it does have its shortcomings but that do not make it a bad buy. Apart from the mediocre cam, absence of GPS and Wi-Fi and the small screen size, there is nothing that this phone lacks in. It should become a great hit and connect with its target audience easily.

My Rating : 3.5 / 5.

Asus P750

Touchscreen phones have taken off in a jiffy after the introduction of iPhone. Windows Mobile platform is a favorite among manufacturers to launch a touchscreen phone. Its capabilities have been pushed to the limit and the world is awaiting the launch of Windows Mobile 7 eagerly. Asus P750 is based on Windows Mobile 6.0 Pro and comes loaded with features to challenge its counterparts.

Asus P750 specifications :

  • Dimensions : 113 x 58 x 17.4 mm
  • Weight : 130 g
  • Display : 2.6? TFT, 240 x 320 pixels
  • CPU : 520 Mhz
  • RAM : 64MB RAM, 256 ROM
  • GPRS, HSCSD, EDGE, 3G
  • WLAN : WiFi 802.11 b/g
  • Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP
  • Camera : 3.2 megapixel with autofocus
  • GPS receiver with SiRF III chipset
  • OS : Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional
  • Approx. price : $700

The Asus P750 has highly professional looks and has a sturdy and compact design. At first look, you will notice that it does not include a QWERTY keyboard, which is a big drawback. The display is also smaller at 2.6? against 2.8? ones commonly found. The display can only be operated through the stylus.

Picking it up in your hand for the first time will make you feel its heaviness. The build quality of the mobile as brilliant as high quality materials have been used. The front has a brushed metal look with high grade plastic used at the back. Accessories bundled with it include leather holster, stereo handsfree, USB data cable, car charger and surprisingly a windsheel mount holder.

The display has QVGA resolution and has good clarity. But visibility under sunlight isn't good and you can barely see it. The display is basically a VGA screen which has been reduced to QVGA one. A little bit of hacking can lead you to its VGA resolution.

The keypad is a regular style keypad which offers good tactile feedback. The metallic keys offer a neat look to the keypad but no backlighting renders them useless in low lighting conditions.

The right side has a lot of keys stacked up. It also has a slot to plug in external antenna to boost GPS reception. Slider lets you switch between standby and keypad lock. Other keys include camera key and a reset hole.

Windows Media Player is the preinstalled multimedia player which allows watching videos and also TV streaming. You can filter content by artists, genre, album etc and also create playlists. The music quality on the device is just about average. The loudspeaker doesn't fare much better either.

The camera has a resolution of 3.2 megapixels and autofocus. Seems good enough with the specifications unless you start using it. The interface is good and offers a variety of customisation options. It also features geotagging letting you tag photos based on where you took them. The image quality is average and fine details are not captured. Video quality is of the same stature.

Internet Explorer Mobile is the default browser which isn't the best you can get on this platform. You are better off with installing a much better browser like Opera etc. The organiser is good as expected and has the same set of time-management features found on other Windows Mobile platform.

Pros :

  • Windows Mobile 6.0 Pro
  • Fast processor
  • SiRF Star III GPS chipset
  • Good build quality
  • Great accessory bundle

Cons :

  • Small screen
  • No QWERTY keyboard
  • Bad camera quality
  • Audio quality average
  • Low RAM

Final Thoughts

The Asus P750 is a good offering from Asus turned bad. The specs on paper look good but the handset underperforms. Small screen, no qwerty keyboard, bad camera quality etc. are its downpoints. There are not enough strong points to cover them up and considering its steep price point, it might not be worth investing it unless you want a small and sturdy touchscreen PDA.

My Rating : 2.75/5
