The long-awaited (some say too long actually) Nissan Sylphy has been launched in Malaysia with a single engine option and two variants, as revealed earlier on this website . The prices are similiar to the pre-launch indication, about RM200 cheaper across the range with the Sylphy 2.0 Comfort costing RM112,800 in West Malaysia, with the Luxury version having a RM4k premium at RM116,800. Read more details on the newly launched Nissan Sylphy after the jump. The Nissan Sylphy 2.0 CVTC is probably one of the cheapest 2.0 liter C-segment sedans you can buy, but its engine also produces the least power at 133 PS at 5,200rpm and 191Nm of torque at 4,400rpm. But an X-TRONIC CVT transmission that provides a virtually infinite amount of gears between the first and final gear (2.349 to 0.394) should be able to keep it in a useful spot in the powerband. This engine has been tuned for smooth and powerful low to mid end torque delivery rather than high end power because 90% of the 191Nm is available from a low 2,000rpm. Nissan claims the MR20DE engine in the Sylphy can travel up to 16km on 1 liter of fuel under Japan’s 10-15 test mode. Here’s a little primer to what the 10-15 test mode is. It measures two separate drive cycles called the 10 drive cycle and the 15 drive cycle. The 10 drive cycle is a low-speed drive aimed to emulate an urban drive. It is carried out on a dyno machine rather than on actual roads. It is a series of acceleration and braking (including coming to a complete stop) with a top speed of 40km/h and an average speed of 17.7km/h, and lasts 135 seconds. The 15 drive cycle is longer at 231 seconds and consists of a series of acceleration and braking (without coming to a complete stop) with a top speed of 70km/h and an average speed of 33.88km/h. The 10-15 test basically runs one 15 test first to warm the engine up, then the car is allowed to idle for a shot period. Then the 10 drive cycle is performed 3 times, followed by a single 15 cycle mode. Fuel consumption is then measured via emission samples from the car’s exhaust. Source: Japan Automobile Standards Internationalization Centre The complete test displaying vehicle speed versus time is shown above so you can see for yourself what kind of driving pattern the 10-15 test cycle measures. Japan is moving towards the JC08 test instead of the 10-15 test, with the JC08 expected to be fully implemented by 2011. Japan currently uses JC08 test results to count towards only a certain percentage of emissions and fuel consumption measured for regulatory purposes. Edaran Tan Chong Motor assembles the Nissan Sylphy locally at its plant in Serendah, and it remains mostly unchanged from the Japanese version because of the limited volume target of only 350 units per month, so it does not make sense to localise the sourcing of parts. ETCM says it was able to get CKD parts from Japan at much cheaper rates due to the JMEPA (an FTA agreement between Malaysia and Japan). Is this the first Japanese car manufacturer/principal to admit to the existence of JMEPA? Styling-wise, the Nissan Sylphy looks like a downsized version of the larger Nissan Teana, which isn’t a bad thing at all as it looks quite elegant and grown up. It’s quite interesting to see different offerings in the C-segment range using different approaches to styling to target different personalities. The Nissan Sylphy?s 2,700mm wheelbase is the equal to the Civic?s, the longest in the C-segment currently, but Edaran Tan Chong Motor says that according to data on interior space published by its competitors, the Sylphy’s interior cabin space is the longest. Rear knee room provided is about 680mm. Despite that, it is still able to offer a large 504 liter boot, probably thanks to the space saving design of its rear torsion beam suspension. The interior is mostly beige with a dark upper dashboard area. The steering looks like it was lifted from the Latio, and this becomes even more believable considering how the colour does not exactly match with the rest of the dashboard. Steering wheel audio control is also missing even with the Luxury version’s more upmarket audio system. Some other facts worth nothing is that the car uses an electric power steering, has ventilated disc brakes on the front and drums at the rear, and has 15 inch alloys wrapped with Yokohama 195/65R15 tyres. The interior is done up in Masumi fabric, but the Luxury version gets leather, or you can add it to the comfort version for RM2,000. There are three 3-point seatbelts for the rear passenger bench. Other features include auto-headlamps which turn on automatically in the dark, automatic climate control, and a single-CD audio player in the Comfort version. The Luxury version’s audio system is a 6-CD system with MP3 support, or you can add this to the Comfort version for RM1,000. The Nissan Sylphy 2.0 CVTC is priced at RM112,800 for the Comfort version and Nissan 116,800 for the luxury version. More about the car to be revealed with a test drive report soon. Looks like the PDAM got what they wanted, and more soon! The government has decided to revise the commission for petrol and diesel sales from 9.5 sen per liter to 12.19 sen and from 4.5 sen per liter to 7 sen per liter respectively. The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs is also in talks with banks and Bank Begara Malaysia to reduce the 1% charge on fuel paid for via card to 0.5%. So they will potentially get both a commission increase and a reduced credit card processing fee! Since prices are not going up for us, the increased commission per liter is likely to be coming out of our tax money. Petrol stations are also now cleared to open from 6am to midnight only, but stations that wish to open 24 hours can make an application with the ministry. This is effective from the 1st of July 2008. So remember guys, make sure you fill up before midnight! Source Related Posts: PDAM wants higher commission for fuel purchases via credit card payment © 2008 Paul Tan's Automotive News . The latest generation B8 Audi A4 was launched today at the Audi Hangar in Glenmarie. The new A4 debuts with a single model variant for now, but additional variants (2.0 TFSI and 3.2 FSI V6) will be added later. For now we will have to make do with the Audi A4 1.8T, priced at RM235,000 or RM260,000 if purchased with the S-Line pack. More details on the new Audi A4 after the jump. The base model for the A4 this time around is the 1.8 TFSI engine from the new EA888 family, replacing the normally aspirated 2.0 FSI and 1.8 Turbo models of the previous generation. It is installed longitudinally in the engine bay. The EA888 1.8 TFSI engine features FSI direct injection that injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber via six-hole injectors at a pressure of 150 bar. Fuel is injected twice with different quantities, once in the intake stroke and once during the compression stroke. It is designed on run on RON95 fuel or better. It now uses a timing chain that does not need to be replaced. The turbocharger is the Borg Warner K03 which is watercooled. This isn’t a fancy VGT or twin scroll turbo but it still manages to give the 1.8 TFSI engine an impressive power and torque curve. Peak power output of 160 horsepower is achieved between 5,000rpm and 6,200rpm. Just above idle at 1,000rpm, the engine is already making 165Nm of torque, and this increases up to a peak of 250Nm (equivalent to a 2.5 liter normally aspirated engine) at 1,500rpm and remains constant up until 4,200rpm. For this model, the engine drives the front wheels through an Audi Multitronic CVT gearbox. As you know a CVT gearbox has step-less continuously variable ratios between the lowest and highest gear but if that stepped shifting feel is desired, you can shift via the gear lever or paddle shifts between 8 “virtual” ratios, one up from the B7 which had 7. On the interior you get a really beautiful meter cluster that lights up with brightness and clarity. I love how the needles start from the 6 o clock position, they make the car feel sportier. The center dash area features an Audi Multi Media Interface LCD panel from which you can view in-car entertainment system status. The in-car entertainment system is of the Audi symphony Radio variant. Higher end models that will come later will probably get a co-branded premium system. The boot capacity is 480 liters. The A4 comes with quite a decent list of equipment such as rear air conditioning vents, traction control and antilock brakes, 6 airbags, bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, foglamps, bluetooth handsfree, light sensor for the headlamps and rain sensor for the wipers, adjustable and heated wing mirrors with folding function, electric front seats, a tinted windscreen, and adaptive lights. The base A4 rides on 17 inch 10-spoke wheels wrapped with 245/45R17 tyres. Adding the S-Line package (a premium of RM25,000 bringing the car price up from RM235,000 to RM260,000) moves you up an inch to 18 inch 5-spoke wheels wrapped with 245/45R18 tyres, sports combination leather/cloth seats, and an S-Line bodykit. The A4 has a drag coefficient of cd=0.27. Audi claims a sportier drive and better steering feel thanks to an engine that is positioned behind the front axle and a lower steering system which will result in better steering feedback. Suspension behaviour can be changed via the Audi drive select system - more on how this works or how effective it is to come with an upcoming test drive review. Over the weekend, I was in KL to attend the Nuffnang Wild 'Live' Party. Yo. The event was another one of Nuffnang's large-scale blogger gatherings since the Pajama Party they hosted in March. Hey, blogging is never meant to be a solitary exercise and well-organised parties like this one is especially fun to go to. It's also a great opportunity to get to know a hot chick or two. ... and maybe a cock . Being an animal-themed costume party, I half-expected that people might don't care and just turn up in nothing more than T-shirt and jeans. How wrong was I! Almost everybody came sportingly dressed as outrageous animals, took part in games, danced and really just completely let go of themselves. Tarzan Liang (aka Coolest Emcee In The Whole Of KL? ) was again the host for the evening. Boss Timothy giving the welcome speech. I thought he might come as a mole (y'know, 'cos of his trademark mole?) but he came as a lion instead. Cheesie came as a sexy lioness. Look, she brought along her lunch box so she didn't have to eat all the animals there for dinner! How considerate. Chris Tock came as a cow, with his udders all hanging out. The guy won a RM4,000 laptop for being voted Best Dressed! From left to right, that's Pinkpau Su Ann as a lady bug, Suet Li as an ostrich and Jolyn as another lioness who came running all the way from Penang. Su Ann brought along this gigantic leaf and said its her home. As for me, I came dressed as... WINNIE THE POOH! The costume was damn hot ok. Was sweating throughout the entire evening. A lot of people came up to me and asked where's my pot of honey. To that I say, "screw the pot of honey!" Winnie the Pooh is all grown up now baby. Winnie the Pooh drinks BEER and hangs around a sexy pink leopard . Audrey the bee flew to my direction thinking I have honey, but I gave her Carlsberg instead. Finally met Suet Li after hearing about her for so long. Before this event, I actually thought Suet Li hated me a lot because she boycotted my blog once due to kennysia.com being so mainstream. But she turned out really nice, and we even camwhored a bit. From Dreamgirls to bloggers, my girls Adeline the leopard and Hanis the moth. Five months ago I was dishing out criticism on the clothes they wear. How strange it must be for them to look at me now dressed as Winnie the Pooh . With that girl Cynthia , whose boyfriend defeated me in a not very close fight for this year's CLEO Bachelor award. Now she wanna kill me. What lah. Lots of people dressed up as bunnies. Liang: "Wow, check this out! Four female bunnies to one male. You must be leading a good life my friend." Male Bunny: "Yea, but too bad I'm gay. " If all bunnies are like that, they're gonna go extinct soon. How awesome is that elephant costume! Apart from being nominated for best dressed, Shad also won a special prize for featuring his pet TAPIR on his blog. There's a cow walking around letting random people cop a feel at his udders. If only I could do the same thing to girls, the world would be such a beautiful place. The gorgeous Nuffies from the front. And from the back. Oi, look at our tails lah. Don't stare elsewhere ok. The buffet dinner served at Modesto's was fantastic. It was so good, a cow walked into the restaurant to have his dinner there. Next thing you know, he walked into the kitchen and mysteriously disappeared. *cues X-files music* A chicken and a pooh bear shaking it on the dance floor. Something you don't see in Zouk everyday. I was playing with Cheesie Lioness' tail, but this picture ended up looking very salah . Bad Pooh Bear! BAD! This is Estee the butterfly, who flew in from Singapore. This is me wearing Estee's butterfly wings. This is me wearing Estee's butterfly wings, Su Ann's ladybug cap and WenQi 's bunny ears. This is me wearing Estee's butterfly wings, Su Ann's ladybug cap, WenQi's bunny ears, Robb 's porcupine backpack, pulling on Chris Tock's cow tits. All in all, an extremely fun evening out and I cannot wait for Nuffnang's next blogger gathering. Of course, there are heaps of other photos but I cannot possibly post them all. I'll let you browse the other blogs for them. So I'm gonna conclude this entry with a very special community service message. Stop Animal Abuse. Please, animals have feelings too. Wish I were in KL this weekend to attend KLue magazine's Urbanscapes !

It was done with class. It?s within the moral parameters of Angel being a wholesome endorser.? After ?Lobo? wraps up, Angel will fly to Bangkok for a commercial shoot. Then she will have rehab therapy for a mild case of slipped disc and start shooting her movie with Piolo Pascual in Bukidnon and Australia. The endless intrigues pitting Angel against Marian Rivera like in FHM?s sexiest poll is a non-issue, really. Angel?s too blessed to be stressed (by controversies)." For now, lets enjoy Angel Locsin's previous photo shoot showing her TOP. More photos of your favorite Pinay Celebrities at http://pinaycelebritypics.blogspot.com

Despite the ?230? badge being one of Mercedes-Benz’s best brands, it’s taken up to nearly the end of the W211’s lifecycle for Malaysia to welcome the E230 onto her roads. With reports of a new generation E-Class set to debut at the end of the year, this comes late in time, but is still very much a noteworthy addition to Mercedes’ best-selling line. Shannon Teoh reveals more after the jump. The E-Class is easily Merc’s best-selling model with the W211 making up some 48% of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s total sales. So the question might be, is it really necessary to expand the model lineup? How many more E-Classes can you sell? Well, apparently, there’s a little segment that’s been unfulfilled by the choice of an E200K and an E280. The E280 obviously provides a more luxurious and powerful option to the E200K. It means you can have the best of both world’s of ?status symbols?. You have the de facto big boss car, the E-Class but also a bit extra to place yourself above the run-of-the-mill big bosses. But you’d have needed RM70,000 or 20% over the E200K’s retail price for that privilege. Given that the E200K’s supercharged engine provides enough pull for everyday use, not many were willing to shell out just to be a bit special. The E230 ostensibly brings this privilege to a more affordable price point, albeit, still 45 grand over the base model’s RM353,888 pricetag. With the more recognisable 230 badge, it combines both the sense of discernment yet avoids the ostentatiousness of buying something top-of-the-line for what is meant to be a an executive limo unlike the imposing and attention-grabbing presence of the S-Class. In fact, Merc has probably realised that while they’re at it, they might as well make the E280 even more ostentatious with the AMG Sports package, giving it AMG styling and also technical changes for the suspension, brakes, exhaust and a jacked-up price of RM438,888. Interestingly, this is all locally-fitted as the entire E-Class range is locally-assembled. Predictably, Merc says that audit teams from Germany as well as high levels of local QA ensure that there is no discernible difference between a CKD and CBU unit, and in fact, the CKDs, they claim, can be better due to adjustments for local conditions. At a factory tour, one of the more impressive processes was the computerised measuring station, where two mechatronic arms take 919 different measurements to ensure that the dimensions of the car are correct. The allowable variances are miniscule, for example, the wheelbase of 2855mm is allowed a maximum of 1mm deviation, which is a 0.035% tolerance. Tolerances for safety-related measurements are even more stringent. In any case, the E280 AMG’s presence (white car above) gives the E230 some breathing room, once again, avoiding the admittedly good-looking but hardly subtle AMG styling as it’s practically spec-ed the same as the E280 Avantgarde. This means as opposed to the E200K, it has completely different interior trim, 17? wheels, the huge panoramic glass-roof that offers better sound insulation, through-loading from boot to rearseat for long objects and sat-nav as standard. There’s also Linguatronic, the intriguing voice-control system to work the Comand APS which oversees all telematic functions. There’s no need to go into all that at length but what’s new is the Intelligent Light System, an evolution of the Active Light system. The bi-xenon headlamps include five different modes now, for example, the country mode that provides brighter and further illumination, increasing the driver’s range of vision by around 10 metres. The motorway mode on the other hand, which activates automatically above 90km/h, produces a light cone that extends up to 120 metres away. What’s going to be the big issue in fact, is whether the 201hp 2.5-litre V6 coupled to the 7G-Tronic actually offers much better performance than the 5-speed auto trasmission on the E200K’s 181hp 1.8-litre supercharged unit. The answer is: sometimes. Certainly it’s much creamier whether just cruising or accelerating but as far as sprinting away, the stats say it all. The E230 only offers a 0.3s improvement in the 0-100km/h, clocking just outside of 9s. It’s a situation that arises despite the 700cc difference in displacement due to the Kompressor’s peak torque of 250Nm as compared to the naturally-aspirated V6’s 245Nm. The V6 though, feels less harried due to its wider peak torque band, ranging from 2,900-5,500rpm. Annoyingly, while the 7G-Tronic offers better fuel consumption (combined rating of over 10km to the litre) and smoother acceleration, dropping gears to burst away from traffic and in overtaking manoeuvres results in the car hunting for the right gear, losing you precious time. Time you can hardly make up by keeping your foot down due to the E’s traditional bias for ride quality over handling. Happily for prospective Merc owners though, this is certainly not the sort of driving they intend to do on a regular basis. In fact, the car seems to have the effect of sedating any such desires. The highly-wooded interior and four-spoke steering (both of which are not to my personal taste), the suitable sound system and overall spaciousness and ride quality tends to make one prefer to just take it easy. After all, once you’ve adjusted your seat with the outstandingly intuitive system on your door and popped out the concealed six-disc changer at the bottom of your centre console, you’re already delighted to know what an elegantly conceived car you have.
